Kwinana Freeway Upgrades

Main Roads WA is progressing a major upgrade to the Kwinana Freeway between Roe Highway and Safety Bay Road, including a stretch you’ll use daily if you drive to Perth from Kwinana or Parmelia. The planned upgrade will deliver:

  • More lanes along the Kwinana Freeway to ease congestion.
  • New coordinated ramp signals to smooth peak-hour traffic.
  • Safety and drainage improvements designed for long-term reliability.

Community feedback gathered in pop-up sessions is helping to shape the project. Local residents highlighted the importance of reduced congestion, better cycling and walking paths, improved noise walls, and safer ramps. Once complete, these upgrades will help make everyday travel smoother and give you even stronger links to Perth, Rockingham, and neighbouring areas.

Improving Cycle Paths and Footpaths

The City of Kwinana’s Bike and Walk Plan 2025-2035 sets out an exciting vision for safer, easier active travel across the region. The plan aims to make walking and cycling more accessible for people of all ages and abilities by expanding shared paths, improving connectivity between neighbourhoods, and supporting car-free travel where possible. The plan focuses on:

  • Creating a connected network for commuting, recreation, and daily trips.
  • Encouraging more residents to walk or bike by improving path quality and safety.
  • Adding facilities like off-road paths, bike lanes, and shared streets where cars and bikes can move safely together.

Promoting cycling and walking as part of everyday life makes for a healthier, more connected community.
