A community with heart is coming to Donnybrook
News
As Heartford continues to grow, it’s essential that we all play a role in maintaining the cleanliness and safety of our community.
What Is Illegal Dumping?
Illegal dumping refers to the disposal of waste in unauthorized locations, including private land. In Victoria, it’s illegal to dump, abandon, or bury any kind of waste at a place not authorised to accept it. This includes private land. Dumping waste does not meet the general environmental duty, which requires everyone to eliminate or reduce their risk of harm to human health and the environment.
Why Illegal Dumping Matters
Illegal dumping has multiple impacts on a community.
What You Can Do
If you witness illegal dumping or notice dumped rubbish, report it to the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) online or call the 24-hour pollution hotline on 1300 372 842. You can also report it to the City of Whittlesea council. Prompt reporting helps authorities take action and prevents further incidents.
Protecting Your Lot
Even if your home construction hasn’t commenced, there are steps you can take to protect your lot from illegal dumping:
Legal Consequences
Individuals caught illegally dumping waste in Victoria face on-the-spot fines. If the matter proceeds to court, penalties can escalate.
Community Responsibility
Maintaining a clean and safe environment is a collective effort. We encourage all residents to take pride in their community and report any suspicious activity or illegal dumping promptly. Together, we can ensure that Heartford remains a place we are all proud to call home.
