OPPORTUNITY FOR A HILLS LIFESTYLE

The North Stoneville townsite is an area of privately owned land that was identified by the Shire of Mundaring in the 1990s as a location to accommodate future population growth in a way that is consistent with the existing townsite style of settlements in the Perth Hills.

Concentrating growth in and around townsites has been the preferred means of residential development by both state and local governments for a multitude of reasons including:

  • Allows for more choice and variety of blocks to suit different and evolving household needs and lifestyles
  • Enables coordinated infrastructure like shops, schools and parks
  • Improves walkability/cyclability and reduces reliance on cars
  • Creates environmental benefits like irrigation of public open spaces using wastewater recycling, rehabilitation of creek lines and balancing clearing of vegetation with bushfire risk management
  • Encourages a sense of community

The proposed Local Structure Plan application (SP34) for a future residential community at North Stoneville was not approved by the West Australian Planning Commission in July 2020, however, we are working towards resolving outstanding policy matters so that the Hills lifestyle can be shared with those who want the opportunity to create a new life in the Hills, as well as existing residents who want to be able to stay in their community now and into the future.
