40 Years of Giving; What Charity Means to Satterley

Corporate News 15 Sep 2020
40 years of giving and what charity means to Satterley

This year Satterley has much to be proud of as the company celebrates 40 years as Australia’s leading residential land developer. Yet when you speak to its founder and chief executive, Nigel Satterley AM, some of his most memorable moments are not about the company’s 170 residential estates, but about its extensive charity work helping children and families around Australia.

Satterley has been involved in many charities and initiatives over the years to raise vital funds for those that need it the most. It has donated land for more than 40 charity home auctions in its award-winning communities.

Mr Satterley said that there was nothing more rewarding than being able to help Australian families.

“Whether it’s for childhood cancer, those affected by the fires, medical research and equipment, or to help a struggling couple own their first home, the community is always at the heart of what we do, and it’s important to help out where we can,” said Mr Satterley. “Satterley’s charity work has provided some of the true highlights of my life and career to date,” he added.

Here are just some of the many initiatives that the company and its team have been proud to be involved in.

MY ROOM HOME FOR A CURE AUCTION, VICTORIA

Satterley partnered with Metricon for one year and Simonds Homes for two years to donate a house and land package for My Room Children’s Cancer Charity.

My Room raises funds for research and trials to help find a cure for childhood cancers and provides important support for families including medical equipment and clinical care.

The 2020 Home for a Cure auction will take place in October, with details expected to be released soon.

This year’s home is located in Satterley’s popular Arcadia  in Officer, Melbourne. The home is close to beautiful parklands, walking distance to three schools, train stations and the future Officer town centre.

Proceeds from the sale of this year’s 2020 home will be announced on Channel Nine’s My Room telethon later this year.

Satterley are proud to be raising money for My Room Children’s Cancer charity for the third year in 2020.

TELETHON HOME AUCTION, WESTERN AUSTRALIA

Channel 7 Perth’s annual appeal, Telethon7 in Western Australia is the highest fundraising telethon in the world. Over the past 50 years West Australian’s have donated $349 million for sick children and their families.

A favourite part of the 26-hour appeal is the Telethon Home auction and family event. Since the 1970s, the Satterley family and company has been donating land for Telethon Homes, with proceeds used to improve the lives of children including research into childhood diseases, new facilities, medical equipment, programs and counselling and treatment.

The most recent 2018 and 2019 Telethon Homes by New Level were located in one of Satterley’s newest communities in the foothills of Perth, The Hales in Forrestfield. Both years received record numbers at the popular family day event and auction; nostalgic to many West Australians who grew up watching Telethon and attending this annual event.

Satterley has also partnered with various builders over the decades to create impressive Telethon Homes in some of its most popular communities including Eden BeachHoneywoodDalyellup Beach Estate and Catalina.

ELLE FASHION SHOW AND PARTY, WESTERN AUSTRALIA

For the past five years the ELLE Fashion Show and Party has been a highlight of the Perth social calendar. Hosted by Nigel and Denise Satterley, Perth’s A-list ELLE Fashion Show combines high fashion with a sensational afterparty, all in the name of raising money for Telethon Speech and Hearing (TSH).

Mr Satterley, who has been the Patron of TSH for more than a decade, started the event to raise awareness of this worthy charity that assists children who experience hearing loss, speech and language difficulties, and provides much-needed support to these families.

The amazing part is that 100 per cent of proceeds from this event go directly to TSH to help WA children and their families.

BID FOR MADDIE AUCTION, VICTORIA

In 2019 Satterley and Fairhaven Homes supported the Bid for Maddie charity home auction with the home built in Satterley’s award-winning masterplanned community, Upper Point Cook.

The auction day was a huge success and crowds of people attended the event. The home sold for an amazing $736,000, with the money going to Maddie Riewoldt’s Vision, a charity chaired by former St Kilda Football Club champion, Nick Riewoldt.

Nick’s sister Maddie died at the age of 26 after a long battle with aplastic anaemia, a rare disease that prevents the body’s bone marrow from producing enough blood cells.

Maddie Riewoldt’s Vision raises money to fund medical research to discover new and more effective treatments for Bone Marrow Failure, with the ultimate mission of finding a cure.

NINE’S TODAY SHOW NATIONAL HOME GIVEAWAY
Satterley and Simonds Homes teamed up with Nine’s TODAY Show to give first homebuyers around Australia the chance to win a brand-new designer home; reported to be the largest giveaway in Australian breakfast television history.

The home valued at over $600,000 was built in Satterley’s sought-after community, Botanical  in Mickleham, Melbourne.

The competition asked first homebuyers to upload a 30-second video explaining why they ought to win. Over a series of weeks, thousands of people entered and 10 finalists were chosen.

Young Melbourne couple Ella and Jorge had the winning key and were announced as winners live on TODAY by hosts Karl Stefanovic and Ally Langdon.

The couple had been renting a cramped two-bedroom unit with a flatmate and their cat, while trying to save for a house and land deposit. While Ella and Jorge walked away with a new set of house keys, the nine remaining finalists also won $5,000 each to help them save for their dream home.
