5 things to get you ready for the Festive Season!

The festive season is just around the corner and before you know it the big day will be upon us.

That’s why we have put together some tips and tricks to help you kickstart your festive plans and make this time of year as enjoyable and stress free as possible, particularly if you have just moved to a new Satterley community!

1) Presents

The thought of getting the perfect present for everyone on your list can be daunting, but it doesn’t have to be. Plan your gifts in advance to avoid joining the long queue of shoppers and consider what present that person might really want.

When selecting a present, consider hobbies and interests or what that person might actually need. Reflect on what people have said throughout the year can help inform your decision. Consider the current mood or condition of someone as this can provide a clue as to what they might appreciate.

Don’t forget, it doesn’t always have to be a material item, sometimes an experience or a home-made DIY gift can mean more to someone as it shows the amount of thought and effort you were willing to put into it.

2) Interior Decorating

There are those of us who appreciate the tradition and nostalgia of taking out the familiar box of decorations every December, but that doesn’t mean we have to use all the decorations, all of the time.

Deciding on a particular theme or colour scheme can be a fun and exciting way to refresh and revitalise your festive look each year.

Once you decide on a theme, you can then assess which decorations you can use and which to put away. Now the fun begins. Write a list of new additions you may need to finish off the theme you’ve chosen.

Whether it’s ribbons, tinsel, or ornaments, this is your opportunity to get creative and into the true festive spirit.

3) Lights

Christmas is the perfect time to dazzle your home with sparkle, colour, joy and of course Christmas cheer and what better way to do so than with light.

Mapping out a plan can be a huge help to save time and money while achieving your ideal look. Deciding on which lights go where can be half the fun but a top tip is to use warm white lights as the foundation of your presentation.

LED lights use up to 90% less energy than incandescent bulbs and are a cheaper alternative particularly given Christmas lights are commonly used overnight.

If you’re trying to save money, you can always switch to solar lights and save on electricity in the process. Although they can be more costly initially, solar lights can last up to six hours (or more in the Australian Summer) with roughly eight to ten hours of solar charge.

4) Hosting

A smorgasbord of small but tasty nibbles is a great way to entertain guests. Not only is it easier on the waistline than a full, 3-course meal, it’s also easier to cook and prepare. If you’re not the cooking type, there are plenty of small businesses around who specialise in platters and grazing tables that could be perfect for your festive party.

Washing the countless fine china dishes is no one’s idea of fun, so take this opportunity to switch to everyday stoneware or furthermore, break out the paper plates.

Music can set the tone for many people's mood, and Christmas time is no different. A carefully curated playlist, featuring a mix of classics and tasteful Christmas jams can be just the thing to get your guests in the festive spirit. If you’re stuck for ideas, Spotify have a great selection of free pre-made playlists.

5) Get Festive in Your Community (Christmas events around Satterley Communities)

Satterley was one of the first, and remains one of the few, residential developers in Australia to have an in-house community team.

Part of that community spirit has been providing communal cheer to its communities and this year is no different with a bundle of Christmas events around our estates.

Take a look below at some of the awesome things happening in our estates and their surrounds.

Hopefully we’ve helped get your festive plans on track but above all, this special time of year should focus on celebrating your friends and family. In what has been a particularly challenging year for us all, the festive season provides the perfect opportunity to get in touch with those who can’t be with you physically.

There is a heap of video calling platforms like Skype and Zoom that all allow you to dial in with friends and family to ensure you create new and lasting memories with those you love!
