5 Ways to avoid hibernating at Honeywood this Winter

A chill is in the air and Winter is upon us here at Honeywood in Wandi. While some of us love the cooler months, most of us decide to retreat indoors to the warm and hibernate during the Winter months, before Spring arrives.

There is a certain magic to Winter at Honeywood. Different florals have come out to say ‘hello’, the air is crisp and walking trails are a little quieter than busier warmer months. As tempting as it may be to rug up, pop on a movie and wish the Winter months away, we’re here to encourage you to enjoy all our wonderful community and the surround have on offer while the cooler temperatures are here.

We share 5 ways to avoid hibernating at Honeywood this Winter.

Play in nature

Honeywood is rich in nature. In fact, every home is situated 300M or less from your closest green open space. Over 25% of native bushland has been retained in our community, which means you’ll find beautiful native florals and lush green landscapes just a short walk from your front door.

The Wandi District Playing Fields and Honeywood Playground offers a range of play equipment for toddlers to teenagers. The playground has been designed to encourage imaginative play. The cubby frames, net climbing frame, multi-age and ability swing set, spinning cup,  flying fox and skate zone all from key areas of our playground, perfect for spending an afternoon of nature exploration.

If you’re a dog owner, take a stroll to Honeywood’s Dog Agility Park to enjoy a range of dog-friendly activities including; shelter and picnic style seating benches and table, dog agility equipment, water bubbler, dog waste station and additional seating within the small dog fenced off area for smaller pups to play away from the bigger dogs.

Embrace your local community

The Honeywood Local Farmers Market takes place every Sunday at the Wandi District Playing Fields and is the perfect weekly activity to plan into your schedule. Each week local stall holders, food vendors and children’s activities get together next to the Honeywood Playground. Grab a coffee and browse the stalls while enjoying the fresh morning air. We think it’s the best way to start your Sunday!

Take an adventure on a walking trail

Surrounded by nature, Honeywood has so many walking trails to enjoy. The Six Seasons Park by the Sales Office is a great start to a stroll around the neighbourhood, enjoying the native florals and informative signs that share details on the Nyoongar Seasons.

If you’d like to spread your wings a little further afield, check out Thomson’s Lake Nature Reserve. This 5.7km trail is rich in nature. You may even spot the Western Grey Kangaroo or Brush Wallaby’s who call this spot home on your walk. The trail is abundant in flora and fauna, so bring your camera for a spot of nature watching.

Enjoy a round of golf

Honeywood is surrounded by some of WA’s best golf courses. If a relaxing afternoon followed by a bite to eat is your idea of a fun-filled weekend, check our Marri Park Tavern Golf Course, Casuarina. The course is a Par 72, 18 hole lay out for social and avid golfers alike. Call into the Tavern after for a bite to eat or a beverage or two. The suburb of Casuarina is named after a ship under the command of Louis De Freycinet for an exploration of the WA coast in 1802-03. The suburb name was also chosen because a type of casuarina tree is found in the area.

An afternoon of adrenalin

If an afternoon of adrenalin is how you enjoy your downtime, visit Megafast Karts in Cockburn. You certainly won’t be feeling the chill in the air when you’re zooming around their course at top speed! The whole family can enjoy the day with karts for all ages and abilities at their location. Whether it’s a special occasion or just a family day out, go-karting has to be one of the most action-filled ways to spend the day!
