A Q&A with Honeywood Local Farmers Market Manager Casey!

The Honeywood Farmers Markets are a thriving community market providing local, fresh produce for Honeywood and surrounding residents each and every week. Located in the heart of Satterley community Honeywood, Wandi next to Honeywood Primary School, market visitors can enjoy the beautiful masterplanned community, meticulously planned park and so much more.

We spoke with Honeywood Local Farmers Market Manager Casey about the markets, their history and what we can look forward to over the summer months!

Hi Casey! Tell us about the Local Farmers Market!

The market was started by Pieta Esplin almost 5 years ago. She employed me to join her team last year and from my first day, I knew The Local Farmers Market was 100% the right job for me. I love the feeling of having a successful market day, and being a part of the Honeywood community. When the opportunity arose a couple of months ago to own the market for myself, I jumped at the chance. Pieta created such a wonderful market, and I’m proud to continue her legacy.

The location at the Wandi District Playing Fields in Honeywood Estate is perfect for The Local Farmers Market. We’re very family friendly, so having the amazing playground on our doorstep is ideal to keep the kids entertained. We’re also very dog friendly too. Being on the grassed area is so much fun for our furry visitors!

What days and times do you run?

We’re open every Sunday morning from 8am until 12pm. We close for a couple of weeks over Christmas and New Year, and over Easter. Other than that, we’re open every Sunday, rain, hail or shine!

What can visitors expect when they attend a market?

Visitors can expect to have a great Sunday morning! Each weekend we have a range of handmade and homemade specialty stalls, fresh produce, dog treats and dog wash, coffee, and food trucks. We also have kids entertainment, for instance an animal farm or bouncy castle from Farmtastic Party Hire, or the Baerlie and Friends Puppet Show. We regularly have live music from buskers as well.

What can we buy at the Honeywood Local Farmers Market?

We have a great core group of stallholders which come to the market every weekend. For the foodies - Ivan’s Market Garden Wattelup have been with us every weekend since we began and offer a range of fresh produce. My family loves the fruit and veg, and we have been buying it for years!

Treetops Eggs have true free range eggs. There’s KCK Gourmet with their delicious homemade sauces, marinades, chutneys and jams, and Tammy’s Bakery with their incredible sourdough breads.

We have Eddie’s Local Honey with his beautiful range of local honey. And for those coffee fans like me, we have The Pink Flamingo and Lorn Horn Coffee for your Sunday morning coffee fix.

We have breakfast and treats sorted from our food trucks The Food Bazaar, Excuse My French Crepes, Vanilla Sprinkles and Mother and Son Donuts, and fresh juices from Blend and Juice Bar and Crush Juice Van.

For our dog lovers, we have Barkday Paw-ty bringing their homemade dog treats, and Bubble Puppies Dog Wash to keep your pups looking their best.

We also have handmade and homemade variety stalls every weekend, from candles, indoor plants, resin art, handicrafts, plushies, handmade pots for plants, to organic skin care.

How many visitors attend each week?

Around 500 visitors join us each week. We know our regular visitors join us every weekend come rain or shine to pick up their produce and breakfast.

Do you have any festive markets or ‘one-off specials’ throughout the year?

Yes, we have just had our Furry Friends Fun Day in August which was such a great day. We also have Christmas and Easter markets. I am also working on a few extra special events for next year, so stay tuned for those! We’ve got a car boot sale coming up on 27th October as well, for all those residents who want to do a spring clean and clear out before Christmas.

Do you have plans to expand the market locations or number of stall holders? What are your visions for the future?

We have such great support from the Honeywood community, so my main focus is to see our current market reach its full potential. Then I’d love to expand to new locations, but time will tell!

If a resident would like to have a stall at your markets, what should they do next?

They can either come down to the market on a Sunday and see myself or one of my team at the Information tent, or they can send me an email casey@thelocalfarmersmarket.com.au. We’ll be happy to answer any questions they may have.
