Behind the scenes into the making of Gallery

The journey to ‘Gallery’ has been exciting and rewarding for all involved in the project and is set to be a wonderful place for future residents to call home.

Gallery is located in Willagee, a brand new neighbourhood in the City of Melville. Comprising a range of living styles – from double storey family homes to terrace style homes to future proposed apartments, Gallery offers a beautifully integrated lifestyle – art, architecture, nature, history and all the convenience of the surrounding amenity.

Gallery is situated just 20 minutes from the CBD in the City of Melville, on a historic site that’s been loved for generations. From its conception, Gallery has been designed to integrate all the key aspects of an ideally integrated lifestyle.

Behind the scenes, Satterley has been busy working on a range of innovations to transform the former Carrawtha Primary School site into exciting development set to welcome over 250 residents during its lifespan.

Planning commenced in 2019 after the appointment of the project by the City of Melville in May 2018. Satterley are proud to have been selected as a joint partner with the City to assist in the transformational vision for the area.

Following the purchase of the former Carrawatha Primary School site in 2006 the City of Melville made a commitment to the community of Willagee to enhance and invigorate the suburb and worked with them to create a vision for that site. This was then format adopted by council as the Willagee Structure Plan in 2013.

Forming part of this exciting, wider project within the city, Carawatha Park was completed in 2016 and included two stages for a bushland and parkland development. The third stage of this revitalisation project will be the final part and will deliver Willagee a high-quality residential development that complements the local character and natural surrounds; now known as Gallery.

Satterley and the City are working hand in hand to ensure Gallery transforms the area into a sustainable project with a range of housing choices including single lots, cottage homes, duplexes and apartments offering affordable and stylish housing options for residents.

Extreme care has been taken to ensure care and respect has been paid to the land. Mature trees on the Carawatha Primary School site have been retained and are now located on the western residential side. When complete, Gallery will include even more trees – over 100 new plantings! Trees that have been unable to be kept within the Gallery community are being repurposed with the help of the City of Melville, Gallery’s landscape architects, Kwinana and Bicton Men’s Shed and Woodturners Association of WA. Community engagement has been an important part of this process, understanding that residents who live in the wider community are passionate about the environment and natural surrounds they live in.

Parks and homes have been planned to integrate with each other, as green finger pathways run the full width of Gallery to join Carawatha Park alongside. This considered design means all homes within Gallery integrate with green, shared spaces to bring neighbours out of their homes and into the landscaped natural spaces to create a unique community feel.

New, meticulously landscaped and paved walkways will harmonise with the existing decades-old trees to form meandering green fingers between homes. A wide spectrum of lifestyles will be available, creating homes for families, couples, the young and the retiring, as individual family-sized homes meld seamlessly into apartment-living options.
