Cassia estate donates native tubestock to help beautify St Vincent’s School

The Department of Communities’ Cassia estate has once again proudly donated over 1000 native tubestock to St Vincent’s School Parmelia to continue revegetating the verge along Tunnecliffe Street. The three-year program is now in its second year with the total value of the donations to be in excess of $6000.

The Year 5 science students at St Vincent’s School had a blast getting their hands dirty and planting the tubestock in the same week as National Tree Day on 2nd August.

Michelle Barjaktarevic, Year 5 science teacher at St Vincent’s school said it was a “fabulous opportunity to work on the verge of Tunnecliffe Street”.

“This is our second stage of planting as we planted 1000 tubestocks this time last year,” she said. “This year the students had a greater understanding of what was being asked of them as they could see the fruits of their labour from the previous year.”

The students planted a great selection of natives in a variety of sizes.  The children were enthusiastic and worked hard to get them all planted in a day and a half.  Other classes in the school enjoyed watering them in their first days before the winter rains came in.

Nigel Satterley, CEO Satterley said, “It is a pleasure for the Department of Communities and Satterley to be able to work with the local school to donate the supplies to help revegetate the verge and beautify the area. It looks like the kids had a great day planting and getting their hands dirty!”.

The Department of Communities has collaborated with Satterley in developing Cassia to bring affordable housing options to the suburbs of Kwinana Town Centre and Parmelia.
