Create a gorgeous kitchen without breaking the bank

Your kitchen is the heart of your home and an area where you and your family spend most of your time. We’re all wowed by beautiful show home kitchens, created by experienced interior designers and kitchen craftsman who are ahead of kitchen trends. These spaces can appear hard to replicate but with some simple tips and tricks like the ones we have featured below, you too can have the kitchen of your dreams without breaking the bank.

SWAP TIMBER FOR LAMINATE

Timber cabinets and flooring ooze luxury, but they can come with a rather large price tag. Laminate flooring and cabinets are a great way to create the same luxury aesthetic on a fraction of the price.

Timber or look-a-like timber brings warmth and depth to your kitchen with a timeless feature that is easy to clean, practical and stylish.

STORAGE EQUALS EXPENSE

Overhead cabinets seem like a must in every kitchen but you pay a premium to have them! Ride the minimalist train by sacrificing overhead cabinets and investing in alternative storage options that move with you for years to come. Dressers, tall cabinets, and individual shelves are great storage options that can create a beautiful open plan feel to an otherwise busy area of your home. Open shelving is chic and stylish in 2019.

VINTAGE VIBES

Natural stone, rattan furniture and bright pops of colour are expected in 2019. This simple trend doesn’t need to cost a fortune. Upcycling items from car boot sales, community markets, and charity shops is a great way to achieve the look for less. Sand old cabinets and shelving and paint with a pop of colour or take the time to give an old family lamp some TLC to bring into 2019 with a fashion-forward bang.

POPS OF COLOUR

Gone are the days of neutral living. Bright pops of colour are expected in kitchens through the use of upholstering older kitchen items. Do you have kitchen stools that are looking a little tired? Reupholster with a bright blue or teal fabric to give your stools a new lease on life.

Swap your light fittings for ones that have a retro flare or bright colour to bring your kitchen up to speed. Accessories are a great way to keep up with the trends without being too bold with your interior choices. Bright lamps, vases, and artwork are a simple and affordable way to achieve this look.

RAW TEXTURES

Adding raw materials and textures to your home is a great way to add depth to an otherwise cold or clinical kitchen. Woods, stone, and wicker are easy to source and affordable. Raw textures are classic and mix well with all kitchen designs to create a homely ‘lived-in’ feel to a new home.

Visit your local op-shop for raw textures and accessories that reuse and recycle – it’s good for the environment too.
