Dalyellup Beach supporting South West arts sector during COVID-19

Dalyellup Beach estate is excited to support the 2020 South West Virtual Arts Spectacular, commencing this month. Devised and run by not-for-profit community organisation, the Dalyellup Collective, this innovative online arts program is designed to support the local creative sector during COVID-19 by facilitating paid online workshop opportunities for artists and hosting a virtual art exhibition and competition.

The initiative recognises the vast talents of professional artists, hobbyists and students in the South West who have had art events, galleries, exhibitions, competitions and makers markets cancelled, impacting livelihoods and limiting creative opportunities.

Kicking off from 6 May, there are seven online interactive art workshops available to community members across the South West region ranging from sketching with paint to macro photography, all run by local art professionals in the field.

Thanks to a team of sponsors including Dalyellup Beach estate, artists are paid as part of the program so that participation is free for anyone living in Augusta-Margaret River, Boyup Brook, Bridgetown-Greenbushes, Bunbury, Busselton, Capel, Collie, Dardanup, Donnybrook-Ballingup, Harvey, Manjimup and Nannup.

The workshops are all abilities encouraging youth, teens and adults to learn new skills and develop their artistic talents from the comfort and safety of home.

Although free, registration to the workshops is essential and spaces are filling fast!

Separate to this, but still part of the overall 2020 South West Virtual Arts Spectacular initiative, local artists and creatives are invited to showcase their work by entering an online art exhibition and competition. Run through Facebook with three agree groups and three distinct judging categories, the competition is completely online and is free to enter. Participants can submit up to 5 pieces of work each, and, by exhibiting, have the opportunity not only to win prize money, but also to sell their art to the general public online.

The process of entering has been made easy. Competition goers simply need to register via the Eventbite page and follow the terms and conditions of uploading artworks to Facebook.

Artwork can be uploaded between 9am Sunday 10 May until midnight Sunday 7 June. The winners in each category will be announced on 13 June with over $3,000 in prize money up for grabs thanks to the Shire of Capel.

“We’re incredibly excited to support this first of its kind initiative for the South West, which we know has a very strong local arts scene,” said Satterley Community Development Manager, Amy Blundell.

“We understand that local artists and students have so much work to share that, due to current circumstances, has been put on hold. The 2020 South West Virtual Arts Spectacular encourages anyone creative to share their projects and to learn and develop their skills and we can’t wait to see the local talent that is going to be displayed as part of the online competition!”
