Free things to do this Summer holidays at Heron Park

As the summer holiday’s approach us, it can be hard to keep the little ones entertained every day without breaking the bank! At Heron Park, there’s plenty of free activities to keep the whole family entertained throughout the summer; from indoor activities to keep cool to outdoor activities to burn off extra school holiday energy.

We’ve put together a guide of some of the fun free activities you can do this summer to save you time researching and to give you more time to enjoy Heron Park and the surrounds!

Enjoy the parks and playgrounds at Heron Park

Heron Park is home to a number of parks and playgrounds that are free for you to enjoy. With an adventure playground, picnic areas, bbq facilities and a new skate park coming soon, there’s plenty for the whole family to get outdoors and enjoy. Why not head to the adventure playground with a picnic and invite some friends to enjoy the glorious summer weather?

Have an arts and crafts afternoon in the garden

The thoughts of arts and crafts can scare many parents, but heading outside into the garden with some paint, glitter and some large sheets of paper can provide hours of fun. Get the kids to paint each other’s hands and feet and create some art with their friends and hose off in the garden afterwards for minimal clean up effort.

Head for a walk at Harrisdale Swamp

Get out of the house and head for a long walk in nature. Walking is a great way to get the kids active and learning throughout the school break. Harrisdale Swamp is just a short walk from Heron Park and an ideal way to enjoy the natural surrounds, animals and flora and fauna of WA.

Take a trip to Kings Park

Kings Park is an ideal location for a day of activities with plenty to do. The Rio Tinto Naturescape is a great place for the kids to see all aspects of nature and have fun at the same time. The botanical gardens are one of our favourite spots which provide beautiful displays with plants from all regions of Australia.

Head to City Splash in Perth City

City Splash is a fun free activity with a number of water slides and workshops every weekend in January from 10am to 4pm. It’s a great way for the whole family to have a great day out in the city and keep cool at the same time! It’s a firm family favourite and one certainly not to be missed.

Decorate cupcakes with friends

Getting the kids involved with baking and cooking is a great way to have fun without needing to leave the house. Invite some of their school friends round, stock up on supplies to make cupcakes and have them decorate the cakes and see who can be the most creative! It’s a sure way for fun for everyone.

New Youth Park - Coming Soon!

Ready in time for the next school holidays will be Heron Parks New Youth Park. This will become one and only purpose-built park in Harrisdale and Piarra Waters, providing older kids (and perhaps some adventurous adults) with a place for fun activities such as skateboarding, basketball sessions, climbing and much more.

There’s plenty of free activities to enjoy this summer to make it a summer of fun and enjoyment for the whole family. Have we missed your favourite activity? Let us know below!
