Gallery’s Public Artwork

Why Gallery?

Gallery aspires to bring likeminded people together and encourages them to live life artfully. Bringing people out of their homes to come together and relish in beautiful surroundings.

Public artwork can play an important role in improving the connectivity of an area and contributes to a sense of place by celebrating the location’s cultural identity and the expression of the community around it.

To curate a community that reflects Gallery’s vision, the estate features its very own public art trail for residents to enjoy with family and friends.

The Artists

Perth based artists, Chris Nixon and Steve Berrick, created Gallery’s very own public artwork called Nexus.

Chris is a multidisciplinary artist working on projects from children’s book illustrations to large-scale painted murals and multi-media installations such as Nexus. You can read more about Chris here or via our YouTube video where he talks about the inspiration behind Nexus as his latest project.

Steve describes himself as an artist and creative coder. Software drives his creative experiences and his pieces can be seen in galleries, on the streets and many places in-between. To learn more about Steve, click here.

The Vision

Chris and Steve designed Nexus to represent the intersection of nature and technology, influenced by the local flora and fauna and the history of the site as a place of Wilgee clay.

Forming part of the City of Melville Art Trail, Nexus incorporates painted treatment and lighting design, elevating the artwork for multiple experiences. To find out more about the City of Melville Art Trail click here.

This immersive layered art trail through the public walkways is now complete and accessible for everyone! We recommend visiting the attraction at dusk to see the luminous artwork at its best. The Nexus art trail is located within the Gallery estate, right next door to Carawatha Park on Archibald Street in Willagee.

Watch the journey of Nexus taking shape from conception to commissioning.
