Heron Park Dog Friendly Parks: Harrisdale swamp to closest dog beach

"The greatness of a nation can be judged by the way its animals are treated". This quote is assigned to Mahatma Gandhi, who knew a thing or two about what's important in life. For many of us, our furry friends are an important consideration when it comes to choosing the right place to live. Pet parents give serious thought to amenities their pooch can enjoy such as varied open spaces and walking trails to make sure there are plenty of safe spots for walks and play.

Heron Park and the local surrounds of Harrisdale have a number of areas suitable for dog walkers from parks to fully fenced areas perfect for a run around for your furry friend! We’ve put together a guide of the best places in the local area to take your dog if you’re looking for somewhere new or need some ideas.

1) Harrisdale Swamp

Just a few minute's walk from the Heron Park community, Harrisdale Swamp is a great place for dog walkers with its open space and bushland ideal for letting your dog stretch his legs. Take a walk from the estate to add an extra bit of walking into your daily routine!

2) Newhaven Dog Park

Located close to Heron Park, Newhaven Dog Park is a fully fenced exercise park for dogs. It also offers a separate space for smaller dogs, which is ideal if you’re a bit anxious about bigger dogs! The park offers a range of amenities from water bowls to agility equipment giving your furry friend everything they need for a fun time! Newhaven Dog Park is also a great place for you to meet new people in your neighbourhood. The seated and sheltered areas are a great spot for a catch up while your furry companion has the run of the place.

3) Calleya Dog Park

Another fully fenced dog park in the local area is Calleya Dog Park, located in Banjup. Again, the park offers separate areas for small and large dogs with exercise equipment in both areas. The park also has a picnic and BBQ area too, so its a great place to enjoy an afternoon with the whole family. Furry friends included!

4) John Dunn Memorial Dog Park

Offering three separate fenced areas, the John Dunn Memorial Dog Park is a popular summer dog spot. Located in Kelmscott and just a short drive from Heron Park, John Dunn Memorial Dog Park has sand pits, exercise equipment and water fountains for your dog to enjoy. Open during daylight hours, the park also offers a sheltered space for everyone to take some shade!

5) Inglewood Dog Park

If you’re willing to travel slightly further for a change of scenery, Inglewood Dog Park located in Mount Lawley is the ideal place to head to. The park offers a mix of sand and grassed areas with exercise equipment and a seated gazebo area for you to enjoy. Open daily, the park is an ideal place to meet other likeminded dog owners with its popular location close to Edith Cowan University.

6) Woodman Point Dog Beach

If you’re looking for a beach more than a park as a change for your dog, head to Woodman Point. Dogs are allowed on the beach on their leads, so it’s a safe place to take them for a splash in the water to keep cool and enjoy the beach yourself!

There are so many places to enjoy with your dog both locally and further afield from fully enclosed parks, open grassland or dog-friendly beaches - the options are endless! Heron Park's location means you’re centrally located to utilise places in the City, on the coast and within the local community, making it a great place for families with furry friends to choose for their next home.
