‘Park and Walk’ initiative takes off at Heron Park

August 2019 has seen a new ‘Park and Walk’ initiative launch and be embraced by the Heron Park community. To assist in reducing the traffic congestion around Harrisdale Primary School, the Heron Park Sales Office has been utilised as a destination for parent parking during school drop off and collection.

The launch week was embraced by over 130 families who parked their vehicle at one of the 80 parking (and congestion free!) bays at the Heron Park Sales Office and walked the short 10 minute (600m) stroll to school. During the launch week, Heron Park provided a caffeine boost with a free coffee van on site each morning to fuel them along their new, healthy and more relaxing route to school.

The Sales Office has been an ideal location for parents and guardians to use for parking, with the location just prior to the main stretch of congestion on Gracefield Boulevard which can become busy during peak school time. While this initiative now provides another parking option for parents to take advantage of, the Park and Walk initiative hopes to encourage nearby residents to save on fuel and time while strolling to school in the morning. With over 600 homes close to the schools, we’re confident that together we can get more active and enjoy a healthier way to start the morning.

Heron Park Senior Community Development Coordinator, Lyndsey is excited about the initiative for the community. ‘Heron Park has so many families and because of that, our schools are busy and thriving! School drop off and pick up can be a busy time for parents and we were more than happy to assist the Harrisdale Primary School with this new initiative that saves money, time and fuel; hopefully providing a healthier and more family-focused way to start the morning'.

Over the coming weeks we will be sharing tips and non-car alternative routes to reach some of your favourite spots in Heron Park with equal convenience. Heron Park has so many walking trails and pathways that have been designed to connect our neighbourhood with the amenities they need! So give a new school route a try this week and embrace walking from home or parking at the sales office and enjoying a morning stroll together!
