Honeywood Harmony Day Celebration

On Saturday 28 March at 4pm the Honeywood Residents Group will celebrate and host their fourth Harmony Day Festival, the second year as a combination with Neighbourhood Day. The first celebration took place in 2017, a joint Harmony Day and Neighbourhood Day marking the year that Honeywood Primary School opened.

‘It was really important to us to create an event that would foster community connection and celebrate the diversity of all the young families in the estate, and the opening of the School was a perfect opportunity to realise that vision. We are now in our fourth year, and the event continues to grow - both in scope and in meaning - as our community does’ advises Tara Auty, Honeywood Residents Group President.

This year the Harmony Day Festival is planned as a late afternoon, early evening festival which has proven to be most populr with residents who enjoy coming along after work to enjoy the sunset and delicious cuisine from the various food trucks. On the day funds will be raised through the school’s P&C Bake Sale to support school and community initiatives.

From 4pm onwards there will be an array of activities to join from free face painting to henna art and activities for the children. Much anticipated is the Community Art Project, a free initiative for residents to contribute to made up of a canvas of paper flowers. This initiative will be overseen by Befriend.

Live music will also commence from 4pm with Kiralee Faith followed by the multicultural stage show at 4.30pm and Welcome to Country.

We will have performances by local school choirs, a performed story reading of 'Wombat Stew,' and a variety of different cultures represented in song, dance and martial arts - ending with a drum circle for the whole family to participate in!’ continues Tara.

This year's event is special to us for a number of reasons, most significantly, the fact that it presents an opportunity to celebrate the opning of the new school that will serve our local community's families, and allows Wandi to foster a close relationship with Hammond Park Secondary College from the outset. As we grow, we are also aiming to create more connections with other community groups that align with our values, and this year's collaboration with Befriend Social Network is a meaningful and exciting way for us to work with an organisation that promotes the inclusion and connection we want to foster in our local community’ advises Tara.

The Harmony Day celebration focuses on building community and getting to know your neighbours as our area grows. The Honeywood Residents Group is dedicated to providing events and activities throughout the year to bring together local families, celebrating diversity.

We love to support community events like those organised by the Honeywood Residents Group. Ran by volunteers, the resident's group has done a fantastic job organising many events for residents to enjoy and I’m excited to see the celebration take place in March!’ Comments Community Development Coordinator, Katie Dixon.

Head down to the Honeywood Wandi District Playing Fields on Saturday 28 March at 4pm to join the celebration. Keep up to date with the event on Facebook.
