Photographers are drawn to the City of Kwinana because of the range of photography opportunities and landscapes on offer. Below we share a selection of our favourite photography locations for you to explore, all within close proximity of your home at Cassia.

1) WELLS PARK JETTY, KWINANA BEACH

Wells Park Jetty in Kwinana is a popular photography spot. Located just south of Kwinana Beach, off Rockingham Beach Road, Wells Park Jetty is well known as a fishing hot spot. Beautiful ocean views and sandy beaches are plentiful, so bring your camera to capture the ocean-side activities in action!

2) THE SPECTACLES ABORIGINAL HERITAGE TRAIL

There are two walk trails at The Spectacles with fantastic surrounds: wetlands, native flora and fauna and the opportunity for bird watching. Interpretive signs explain the story of traditional life as told by a Nyoongar elder, offering a wonderful, educational experience for the whole family.

3) RAAF 228 RADAR STATION, LEDA

For the alternative photographers among us, the RAAF 228 Radar Station is a must-visit. The former Royal Australian Air Force radar station provides fantastic photo opportunities, as well as an interesting history.

Located amongst bushland along Wellard Road (adjacent to Gentle Road), this facility operated during WWII as a part of the region’s defence. Solid concrete bunkers that housed the machinery remain, as well as the radar tower. It provides a historical and somewhat eerie photo location!

4) CHALLENGER BEACH, NAVAL BASE

Challenger Beach is a 2-kilometre stretch of sandy beach north of a 600m jetty. Both the foreshore and jetty provide photo opportunities for both the novice and professional photographer. Spend the afternoon with your camera followed by a walk along the coast!

5) POINT PERON, ROCKINGHAM

Point Peron is a long stretch of land towards the end of Cockburn Sound. Surrounded by the Shoalwater Islands Marine Park, the beaches are swimming safe. Small bays and rocky formations are a photographer’s dream.

For those interested in history, Point Peron also features structures constructed in 1943 including two gun emplacements, observation post bunker, operations bunker, two ammunition bunkers and several other ancillary elements. These were part of a network of defence strategies around the port of Fremantle.
