Spend a day in Tarneit & surrounds

Tarneit is much more than a great place to build a new home. With so much to do in the suburb itself and very close by, it’s also a great place to build a life.

From historic strolls and animal adventures, to fabulous fare from faraway lands, there’s something for everyone in Tarneit and the nearby area. Here’s our guide to a day out in this exciting area of Melbourne’s west.

Monumental morning

Rise and swoon Victorian-style, with a tour of the grand 19th century Werribee Park Mansion. Afterwards, you can grab a coffee and have a stroll around the beautifully manicured grounds.

Or, if you’re an art buff – and you’re up for a longer amble - try the Sculpture Walk which takes you through the rest of Werribee Park.

An African afternoon adventure …in Melbourne!

A few minutes from Werribee Park Mansion (and within the grounds of Werribee Park) is Werribee Open Range Zoo. Put aside images of cages and butterfly enclosures – this is acres of land planned to be as close to an African savannah as possible. You can drive through and see lions, zebras, giraffes, gorillas, cheetahs, hippos, rhinos and many other creatures from Africa and around the globe.

Leap into kids’ activities

If a Victorian safari doesn’t quite sound like your thing, an alternative way to spend the afternoon will appeal to kids and fitness fanatics alike. Jump and Bounce Trampoline Park (fittingly located at Hoppers Crossing), features a 10-metre trampoline mat, a foam pit, a basketball area with safety crash mats and party facilities.

…or cool down at Aquapulse

If it’s too warm for indoor antics, take a dip at nearby Aquapulse, the Wyndham Council leisure and aquatic centre, which underwent a massive redevelopment in 2015. It now boasts what may be the largest waterslide in Victoria, a 50-metre (that’s Olympic distance) pool, a cafe, an aqua play area and much more. On another day you might consider the women’s only swimming evenings, the warm water pool, or even the creche.

Shop, eat and be happy

As evening approaches, you could head to Tarneit Central Shopping Centre, which hosts almost 50 shops. It’s the perfect place to refuel or restock – whether that’s groceries (there’s a butcher, a bakery and two major supermarkets), dinner or both!

Dosa’s Palace

Get a taste of the finest Indian dosas and biryanis in town. If you’re new to Indian cuisine, a dosa is a south Indian pancake served with all manner of delicious curries, chutneys and sambars (stews). A biryani is a spiced rice dish often including meat or eggs. Absolutely delicious!

Ice-cream with a Thai twist (literally)

If you have room for dessert, just down the road (and still in Tarneit) is Wyndham Village Shopping Centre, where you’ll find Rollys Roll who serve ice-cream as you may never have seen it before. It’s the classic cool treat presented in the Thaistyle, not in traditional scoops but large curls (think of a fat cinnamon stick) – all done with an Australian tweak.
