Our interview with Arcadia Sales Professional, Lorraine Hibl

Arcadia, Officer aerial shot looking from the park onwards

Lorraine Hibl has been in the south eastern suburbs of Melbourne for most of her life. She wouldn’t have it any other way. A sales professional at Satterley’s Arcadia community, she now lives in Maryknoll, about 20 minutes by car from Officer, and her enthusiasm for the region is evident from the moment you begin speaking with her.

For Lorraine, discussing the advantages of the area with prospective buyers isn’t so much a job task as a pleasure. And she believes one of the reasons the suburb is so well-regarded comes down to the way the region was developed.

“Before they developed Officer, they developed Pakenham, which is the next suburb along. So small shops, train stations, a big town centre [were already there] when Officer started growing,” Lorraine explains. That means Officer is in the fairly unusual position of being a relatively young suburb surrounded by well-established amenities and plenty of local job opportunities.

“A lot of people will ask ‘Why is Arcadia so popular?’ and I tell them, you don’t really need to go to the city. And the clients that do work in the city – or closer to the city, say in Malvern or Glen Waverley – often say to me ‘Well, I can’t afford to buy near where I work [but] I want something nice and new to call my own. I’ve got the train station, the freeway, the highway…’ Access is just so easy.”

While that convenience and accessibility remains a huge drawcard for Arcadia buyers, Lorraine says the sorts of people buying have changed over the last few years.

“We’ve become the estate that everyone wants to get into. It’s basically gone from first home buyers alone to upgraders, downsizers… we even have people who come to Arcadia looking for an investment but who end up living in their Arcadia property and renting out the property they used to occupy.

“They like the community, they like what they see when they drive through: the trees, the cleanliness… I know it sounds corny but it has a nice feel.”
