Your guide to the (many) education options near Maple Grove

Satterley communities are renowned for their family-friendly designs, but also for their family-friendly locations. And our recently launched community Maple Grove is no different.

We know from lots of experience that for a family coming to a new home, education is always at the top of their minds. And the schools, kindergarten and childcare options near our Pakenham East community are numerous.

In this article, we’ll go through some of those that will be most convenient for Maple Grove residents.

Proposed primary school within Maple Grove

Although it’s a little way off yet, arguably the most important school to mention is the one that will be located in the community itself.

A Precinct Structure Plan (PSP) is the official blueprint for a new suburb or area of development. The Pakenham East PSP doesn’t just cover Maple Grove, but it does give an idea of what’s planned for the local area, and that includes three government schools, one non-government school, three community centres with kindergartens and maternal and child health, one local town centre and a local convenience centre.

Importantly, one of those government primary schools, which will be attached to a community centre, is planned to be built in the northern part of Maple Grove.

How far? For some residents it will be literally across the road. For others, it will be a few minutes walk or ride away.

Pakenham Primary School

The nearest primary school to Maple Grove right now - the one residents will be zoned to until the new school is built - is Pakenham Primary.

It opened at the start of 2019, so the facilities are state-of-the-art. Among those facilities is a Performing Arts & Physical Education building, which includes a gym, performing arts room, school café and many other spaces for education and relaxation.

How far? Less than two kilometres away.

How long? Less than five minutes in the car

Pakenham Hills Primary School

Almost as close as Pakenham Primary is Pakenham Hills Primary School, at which students “enjoy park-like surroundings” on the foothills of the Dandenong Ranges.

Pakenham Hills incorporates numerous outdoor play areas and gardens, and its music, science and sporting facilities have all been updated.

How far? Less than five kilometres away.

How long? About five minutes in the car.

Pakenham Secondary College

The government high school you’ll be zoned to as a Maple Grove resident is Pakenham Secondary. It’s well-established but has undergone an extensive building improvement program over several years.

The school encourages extracurricular clubs, which means students can spend a lunchtime or recess indulging their love of everything from chess and books to philosophy and STEM.

How far? A bit over five kilometres from the centre of Maple Grove

How long? A car trip shouldn’t take more than ten minutes.

ECG College

ECG is an alternative secondary school designed specifically to appeal to kids who don’t enjoy or aren’t keen on a traditional school culture and curriculum. The school proudly tells parents and students that they “teach differently” and there is a very strong emphasis on hands-on learning.

Students graduate with the Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL) qualification, which is equivalent to the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE).

How far? About five kilometres from the community.

How long? It takes between five and ten minutes to get there by car.

Ryan Road Childcare and Swim School

This facility offers a childcare service with a bit of a difference. And it’s a really good difference. Situated in a lovely rural property, with plenty of space for kids to run around in, this is a childcare provider, a government-approved kinder and an AustSwim-accredited swimming school - all in one. There’s also a farm animal program which includes horse riding lessons.

Even better, it’s extremely close to Maple Grove. Ryan Road literally acts as the western boundary for our community.

How far? Less than a kilometre up the road.

How long? A two-minute drive or a walk that should take less than ten minutes (even with a little one in tow).
