For more than four decades, riders have hit the dirt track at Byford BMX Club. Founded in the early 1980s, the club has hosted national titles and even nurtured Olympians. Today, it’s one of WA’s oldest clubs, welcoming riders of all ages and abilities for training, racing, and a whole lot of fun.
As the only Basketball WA-affiliated club in the area, the Byford Basketball Association is always buzzing with energy. With competitions for boys and girls across multiple age groups, plus the much-loved Aussie Hoops program for beginners, it’s a great way to build skills and confidence on the court.
Bowls takes on a modern, family-friendly atmosphere at the Byford Bowling Club. Part of the Byford Districts Country Club, it’s a place where anyone can have a go, whether you’re chasing a relaxed social game or keen to play competitively. Two accredited coaches also offer free lessons, making it easy to pick up the game and meet new people along the way.
Fun, fitness, and always doing your best are the values at the heart of Byford Little Athletics. Training sessions happen on Tuesday and Thursday evenings in the summer season (September/October to March), and competitions are held on Saturday mornings at Dale Park in Armadale. Open to children aged 5 to 16, the club is all about community, holding regular coaching clinics, open days, and sausage sizzles.
Footy is part of the Byford story, and Mundijong Centrals Junior Football Club has been leading the charge since 1989. With boys, girls, and mixed teams from under 9s to under 15s, the club has built a proud record of league premierships. In 2016, they became one of the first clubs in the area to field all-girls teams, showing their commitment to growing the game for everyone.
The Serpentine Jarrahdale Cricket Club (known as the SJ Blues) offers great competition for young and old, and new players are always welcome. Formed by the merger of Byford and Mundijong Centrals cricket clubs, the Blues play across the South Metropolitan Cricket Association for Seniors and the South-East Metropolitan Junior Cricket Council for Juniors.
From toddlers picking up a bat for the first time to seasoned players, the Byford Bushrangers offer something for everyone. With tee-ball, baseball, and softball teams, plus regular coaching and umpiring clinics and a pitching machine, the club is a friendly hub for families who love their diamond sports.
This much-loved multi-purpose sports facility features a fully equipped health club, group fitness studio, two sports courts, extreme sports area, crèche, and 300-seat function room. Everyone is welcome at the Rec Centre, regardless of their age or fitness level. The centre offers fitness classes, before and after-school care, dance classes and more.
Learning to swim is easy and safe at Superkids Aquatic. This purpose-built indoor facility offers water safety and swimming lessons for kids of all ages and levels of ability, plus parent and baby classes, and school holiday programs. There’s a heated pool and a pool deck providing easy access for prams and wheelchairs.
Adventure, teamwork, and plenty of fun await at Byford Scout Group. Open to kids and young adults aged 6 to 25, Scouts helps members grow in confidence, learn new skills, and make lifelong friendships. With access to 265 hectares of bushland at the nearby Manjedal Activity Centre, Byford Scouts are never short of outdoor adventures.
With regular programs, events, and even a mobile library service that reaches residents across the Shire, the Serpentine Jarrahdale Library is designed for connection and learning. Whether you’re stopping by for a story time with the kids, borrowing a book, or joining a community workshop, the SJ Library Service is full of discoveries for all ages.
Craftsmanship and camaraderie have been the glue holding the Serpentine Jarrahdale Community Men’s Shed together since 2009. Local community members share their skills in woodworking, metal welding and fabrication, mechanical repairs, and home DIY. Whether it’s building a community project or combating social isolation, the Men’s Shed is a safe, non-judgemental environment.
The CWA has been a pillar of country life for almost a century, and the Serpentine and Districts Country Women’s Association continues that tradition. The group meets monthly to support one another, share knowledge, and strengthen the community, and is always on the lookout for new members.
