Harrisdale Principal Receives Top Award

Heron Park Harrisdale has a wealth of education options to offer residents. Primary, Secondary and Tertiary schools, are all close by, providing opportunity to the whole family.

Heron Park boasts two modern, state of the art schools within the estate, with the $15.2million Harrisdale Primary School opening it's doors to the community in 2016, with the $61 million Harrisdale Senior High School opening the following year in 2017.

As a Heron Park resident, your children could be some of the first to enjoy these premium education facilities, which attract some of WA’s best teachers, including Harrisdale Primary Principal, Karen Duncan.

Ms Duncan has recently been awarded the 2019 Principals Scholarship from the Public Education Foundation, sponsored by Teacher Mutual Bank. As a part of her win, Ms Duncan will travel to Harvard Graduate School of Education to undertake a program specifically designed for exceptional leaders. This program focuses on how not only support and encourage students at the school, but to champion educational excellence in the wider community.

Principal Duncan is one of three Australian teachers awarded this honour and the Harrisdale community could not be prouder of this fantastic award win. Department of Education Director General, Lisa Rodgers, said “Karen’s leadership, focus on education research and her commitment to keeping students at the heart of everything she does has seen Harrisdale Primary School skyrocket in popularity in the past four years since it opened – she has had a real impact on the learning and opportunities for local kids.”

Each Principals Scholarship is valued at approximately $16,000, including program tuition for one of two prestigious Harvard Graduate School of Education programs- Improving Schools: The Art of Leadership or Leadership: An Evolving Vision.

We congratulate Principal Karen Duncan on her fantastic achievement and look forward to hearing about her travels and learnings upon her return.
