Waitangi Day a huge community celebration at Allara

Waitangi Day celebrations at Allara
Sunday 5 February saw Allara estate host the 4th annual Waitangi Day event at Revolution Park, with over 3,500 attendees coming down to enjoy the festivities!

Waitangi Day is New Zealand’s national day, marking the signing of Te Tiriti o Waitangi. Waitangi Day at Allara estate is a colourful showcase of sounds and flavours from New Zealand delivered in a festival format, with Kiwi themed music, food and markets.

These events are delivered by Kiwi Community Events & Celebrations (KCEC) Association. This was formed by, and includes at least three Allara residents, plus volunteer support in the planning and delivery of the event. The event is proudly sponsored by Allara estate.

There were over ten performance groups, 20 market stalls and 11 food stalls, all provided by the local Māori community.

Feedback from attendees was fantastic, with one posting a Google review of the event claiming:

“…there were many stalls selling poi, hats, shirts, sets, icecream, drinks and food. There was also a stage where many of our Polynesian people were performing. Such a great event, recommend bringing a chair or a mat to enjoy the performances. Would definitely attend next year”

This wonderful community event was put on with the support of Satterley’s in-house Community Development team. More information on how the Community Development team works to make Satterley communities great places to live can be found here.
