Team Work makes the Dream Work at Allara, Eglinton

Ocean glimpses are one of the reasons Allara Estate in Eglinton is so popular with residents and locals alike. Take a stroll to Luminous Park and the views really are magical, especially at sunset and sunrise where the WA lifestyle is truly captured with amber hues and bright blue waters.

Residents were instigative in adding a new amenity to the area they loved spending time, two park benches to spend time in comfort taking in the beautiful Indian Ocean views. After consultation with the residents at Allara, The Quinns Men’s Shed (QMS) have designed, constructed and installed two park benches from recycled materials.

August 2018 saw the new additions tested out at a community resident sundowner. Allara resident Lisa Casey said, “I cannot wait to use them on that lovely spot on the hill. Residents will be able to sit back, relax and watch the ocean and sunset".

Construction began based on a prototype designed by QMS member Dennis O’Brian who spoke about what building the benches meant to the group. “The project provided us with an opportunity to show to the public what we can do for them as well as mateship between guys and skills we’ve never learnt before.”

The benches were built using largely recycled equipment which took considerable time to refurbish given the materials age and condition as QMS member Kim Young explained. “We tried to recycle as much as possible, using quality old Jarrah wood,” he said.

The Allara Estate team have been very impressed with the initiative of the Allara community to drive a project they are so passionate about while supporting a local community group like The Quinns Mens Shed.

Community Development Coordinator Katie Dixon was excited to support the initiative ‘I was thrilled to see the residents here at Allara saw the opportunity to better one of the many pocket parks at Allara and thought to kick-start the conversation with Satterley to help achieve a great result for the Allara community and other local residents.

It’s been great to see the joy this project has bought to the residents of Allara and it’s fantastic to see the work of The Quinns Men’s shed in use with daily walks to Luminous Park to take in the view’

‘The success of this project shows how strong our community at Allara is and I’m excited to see what ideas will follow and how Satterley can assist residents with the next project’ Katie describes.

The Quinns Men’s Shed are actively looking for a new home to facilitate their next community project. For more information call QMS treasurer Fred Englebert on 0429 372 375.
